His body left the fog but the rest of him was locked behind
Part of
silent_mizaelhill's AU

When he was 13, almost 14, he was a hero. Not in name, not in proclamation, but in actuality. Where the Numbers Hunter 'Haruto' was gone, on a trek of utmost importance to the Barian World, he himself returned in full force from Astral's homeland, just in time to watch as Heartland began the merge between the Barian world and Earth.
Rather than corner Heartland in a duel however, he and Astral would, as the ultimate form of Zexal, crash themselves into the core of all the power Don Thousand was. They would take the god's energy and essence upon themselves, stopping the merge at the cost of making themselves the catalyst, the prison to Don Thousand...and one that would soon break.
Before this could be done however, Astral would again reject Yuuma's form from himself, taking the chaotic hell as his own to spare the boy. In a final attempt to make certain that Don Thousand would fail in corrupting his being to return, he would then take from the god's knowledge and power in order to cast off what was left of him to corrupt--and it would take the form of a human infant, with hair and eyes as brilliantly coloured as the missing Haruto himself.
Yuuma would take the baby far from the center of the city, stopping only when he was able to leave the child with a young blond boy--Haruto's brother, barely six--and from there, left to return into the fog...
By the time he returned to the core of Heartland however, everything had changed. Monsters roamed the streets, and a thick fog fell over everything, leaving Yuuma isolated and almost entirely on his own. Occasionally, he would encounter none other than Mr. Heartland--and additionally, a young nurse, 'Droite'. And then again...
Eliphas. Eliphas would plead with Yuuma to stop his trek through the city--he would argue that what the boy was doing would only harm Astral more, but it was too late. Although Eliphas was able to begin attempting his own process of sparing Astral, Yuuma intervened, using a device that Astral had fashioned again from Don's great power.
The 'Flauros'. From within Astral's mind he would face Don Thousand, locking his will away into the prison. And from his table, where he had been rendered solid, Astral would expel from him what could not be sealed of Don Thousand's mind, separating mind, power, and instinct into three sections--in a prison, in his body...and in the form of another child.
What happened from here however is unknown to Yuuma, for he was dragged away in that very instant. When he awoke, it would be in a hospital--and to Mr. Heartland's face. Heartland it seemed, had been granted a 'lucky break'. In the blast of power Astral released in a final wash of rage, Eliphas had been rendered human, in mind and body, allowing Heartland to carefully trick him into following his lead. Like an advisor, he could say, simply speaking to him what the former Astral ruler would have wanted to hear...
And among those words, came the need to keep Yuuma and Astral separate, but not completely so. It would be easy, after all, to keep Yuuma here, in a hospital...given a false name...
Given just the right diagnosis, swapping doctors and shifts around and editing papers to make certain that if there could be any 'side effects', they were seen merely as symptoms of whatever ailments Yuuma suffered under. To the doctors of the psychiatric hospital, he was 'Tsukine Yuya', and with all that was forced upon him, it did not take long before he cracked.
Before he turned to the mirrors that had taken him to hell, and thought that even hell would be greater. That even hell was closer to Astral than this. That perhaps hell was not even hell at all...
Eventually he would be given a 'permanent' doctor, but by then, well. He can barely remember his own name, let alone his friends and family, and his mental state is a scrambled mess which somehow manages to still be capable of forming proper thoughts. He speaks in numbers and colours and all the things he longs to see, but most of all he speaks of Astral of Astral of Astral...
And his Doctor does the best to help him in whatever way he can.
